“Virginia Runs on Small Business” Virtual Employment Fair Connects Job Seekers with Career Opportunities
The statewide effort supports workforce development for Virginia’s small businesses
RICHMOND, VA, September 1, 2026 — The Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity (SBSD), in partnership with Virginia Works, connected job seekers with hundreds of employment opportunities during the inaugural “Virginia Runs on Small Business” Virtual Employment Fair held on August 13, 2026.
The statewide virtual hiring event created direct connections between Virginia's small business community and individuals seeking new career opportunities. Participating employers posted 111 jobs representing 375 available positions across a diverse range of industries and experience levels.
“Virginia’s small businesses cannot grow without access to the talent they need to succeed,” said Eric Lin, Director of the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity. “When we invest in the capacity of our small businesses to become strong employers, we are also investing in jobs, communities and Virginia’s economy.”
More than 150 job seekers participated in the virtual employment fair, engaging with employers and exploring available career opportunities. Over 200 resumes were submitted, providing participating employers with a strong pool of candidates for current and future hiring needs.
Available positions reflected the breadth of career opportunities within Virginia’s small business community, ranging from entry-level and skilled positions to technical, professional and management roles. Opportunities spanned industries including education, technology and cybersecurity, healthcare and human services, construction and skilled trades, professional services, hospitality, manufacturing, and more.
“Small businesses are the backbone of Virginia’s economy and connecting them with the talent they need strengthens every community across the Commonwealth,” said Virginia Works Commissioner, Nicole Overley. “This event reflects what workforce development is all about - opening doors, building careers, and ensuring that Virginians and small businesses alike have the support they need to thrive for the long term.”
The “Virginia Runs on Small Business” initiative highlights the important connection between small business growth and workforce development. Access to qualified talent helps small businesses grow and compete, while creating jobs and economic opportunities in communities across the Commonwealth.
Following the event, SBSD and Virginia Works will continue supporting connections between job seekers and small and local businesses.
